Mayor Steve Callaway mentioned that among the many companies destroyed had been a church, a jiu jitsu studio, and an attorney’s office with nine workers. The Hillsboro Community Foundation, a nonprofit devoted to local philanthropy, is accepting donations to help businesses and residents affected by the fire. Portland Gear, headed by Century High School alum Marcus Harvey, is promoting “Heart for Hillsboro” shirts and hoodies with proceeds benefiting affected businesses and staff. Eight companies had been destroyed within the fire, and more than 20 neighboring shops have been unable to open because of road closures, smoke damage or an absence of electricity.
